Every year South African Youth are invited to apply for teachers assistant Jobs and General Schools assistant Jobs as part of the Government Employment initiative to eradicate unemployment in South Africa. Phase V Applications are now Open
Monthly Stipend
Participants will receive R4,000 per month (less 1% UIF contribution), plus R30.00 data allowance.
Selection criteria for Teachers Assistant Jobs and General School Assistant Jobs
- EA – EDUCATION ASSISTANTS (must have matric) – To assist with teaching & learning in classrooms.
- Curriculum Assistants: You must have at least achieved 40% (level 3 pass) in the subject you will be supporting in.
- Reading Champion: You should have passed the Language of Learning and Teaching (LoLT) of the school at matric level and demonstrate a passion for reading.
- Laboratory Assistants: You should have passed physical Science at matric level and demonstrate a passion for science.
- Workshop Assistants: You should have a matriculation certificate with engineering subjects.
- Psychosocial Support/Counselling – Child & Youth Care Worker (CYCW): You should have passed matric and demonstrate a passion for providing care and support.
- E-Cadre / ICT Assistants: You should have passed IT as a subject in matric OR have a qualification or a certificate course in IT
- GSA – GENERAL SCHOOL ASSISTANTS (matric NOT required) – To help with infrastructure maintenance and cultural activities.
- Infrastructure Maintenance (Handyman): You should have a passion for infrastructure maintenance related jobs and maintenance (no matric requirement).-Sports and Enrichment Assistants (SEA): You must show interest in sports, arts and culture (no matric requirement).

Teachers Assistant Jobs and General School Assistant Jobs application process on SA Youth
Step 1: Go to the SAYouth website
Step 2: Register an account
Step 3: Log in with your details
Step 4: In the search bar, you should type ‘school assistant’ or search for the name of the school closest to you
Step 5: A list of jobs available in your area will come up which will also include the opportunity cards for the schools that are closest to you, Only apply at schools that you have easy access to
Step 6: Click the ‘read more’ button which would enable you to see further details about the job
Step 7: If you are interested in the opportunity, click ‘apply now’
Step 8: Follow the prompts and provide the relevant information to complete your application
Step 9: You will then receive confirmation that your application has been successful
Should you be shortlisted, you will be contacted through SMS or a phone call by the school.
