Detailed Entry Requirements
To qualify for the North West Health Student Nurse Intake 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
General Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid South African ID.
- Must be residing in the North West Province (proof of residence may be required).
- Must be willing to undergo theoretical and clinical training at an accredited provincial nursing college.
- Must be medically fit and prepared to work in a demanding healthcare environment.
Academic Requirements
Applicants must have one of the following qualifications:
1. National Senior Certificate (NSC) / Matric (post-2008):
- Mathematics OR Mathematical Literacy – minimum Level 4 (50–59%).
- Life Sciences / Biology – minimum Level 4 (50–59%).
- English (Home Language or First Additional Language) – minimum Level 4 (50–59%).
- An overall Admission Point Score (APS) of 25 or above is usually required.
2. Senior Certificate (pre-2008):
- English – minimum E symbol (higher grade) or D symbol (standard grade).
- Biology – minimum E symbol (higher grade) or D symbol (standard grade).
- Mathematics – minimum E symbol (higher grade) or D symbol (standard grade).
3. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

Applicants with a nursing-related qualification or relevant healthcare experience may be considered if they meet the criteria set by the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and the Department of Health.
Additional Requirements
- Must be unemployed at the time of application (this is a funded training opportunity).
- Applicants should demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, a caring attitude, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Willingness to be placed at any healthcare facility in the North West Province after completion of training.
