The Rand Water Water and Wastewater Reticulation Services Learnership 2026, reference number RAN260216‑7, is an exceptional opportunity for young South Africans who want to launch a career in the water sector.
Rand Water is one of the largest water utilities in the world, supplying high-quality potable water to more than 12 million people in South Africa’s economic hub. This learnership programme supports the National Skills Development Strategy III (NSDS III) by focusing on developing scarce and critical skills within the water and wastewater reticulation field.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Learners accepted into this programme will be involved in various operational and technical activities, including:
- Assisting with the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater reticulation systems
- Supporting installation, repair, and maintenance of water pipelines and sewer networks
- Detecting and reporting leaks, blockages, and pipe bursts
- Participating in meter reading and basic meter maintenance
- Monitoring water pressure and flow
- Assisting with excavation, pipe laying, and site reinstatement
- Inspecting valves, hydrants, and manholes
- Complying with health and safety regulations
- Attending theoretical classes and participating in practical activities
- Completing assignments, writing assessments, and maintaining a practical logbook

- Understanding of Rand Water’s mandate and its importance within the water sector.

- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

- Self-motivated and results‑driven approach to learning and work.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this learnership, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Educational Requirements
- Completed Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science
- Achieved a minimum Level 3 in both subjects
- A SAQA/NLRD verification report is required
(Available on the SAQA website under Verification Services)
Employment and Study Status
- Must not be employed
- Must not be registered for any qualification
- Must not be enrolled in another learnership
- Must not possess any completed post‑matric qualification
(Failure to disclose this will result in disqualification)
Additional Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid ID
- Must be between 18 and 35 years old, as aligned with NSDS III
