Transnet SOC Ltd, South Africa’s state-owned freight transport and logistics company, is offering a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme for 2026. This opportunity is aimed at students and recent graduates who need practical workplace exposure to complete their qualifications and improve employability.
The programme runs for a 12-month period and provides hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to real operational environments within Transnet.
Position Purpose
The Transnet WIL Trainee Programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace experience. Participants will be placed within relevant departments where they can apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world logistics, engineering, and transport environment.
The programme supports skills development, workplace readiness, and professional growth, making it ideal for students who are required to complete Work Integrated Learning (WIL) as part of their qualification.
Key Responsibilities and Outputs
Task Execution
- Assist with specific projects within assigned departments or work-streams
- Perform routine operational tasks under supervision
- Support administrative duties, including documentation and reporting
Learning and Development
- Participate in Transnet training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programmes
- Shadow experienced professionals to gain practical industry exposure
- Take part in problem-solving activities to develop analytical skills
Communication and Collaboration
- Engage with internal teams, customers, and suppliers
- Provide regular progress updates on assigned tasks
- Act as a point of contact for queries and support
Research and Analysis
- Conduct data collection, research, and analysis to support business decisions
- Prepare reports and presentations using MS Office
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives
Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to Transnet policies, procedures, and safety regulations
- Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and ethical standards
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
To be considered for the Transnet WIL Trainee Programme 2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Matric / Grade 12 certificate
- S4–S5 level with all theoretical coursework completed in one of the following fields: Electronics , Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current), Mechanical Engineering
- Must be a South African citizen
- Aged between 18 and 35 years
- Preference will be given to Persons with Disabilities
- No bursary obligation with another company
- Proof of institutional confirmation / most recent WIL letter
