The SANDF MSDS Application 2027 Intake is officially open. The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) invites eligible South African youth to apply for the Military Skills Development System (MSDS) 2027 programme.

What is the SANDF MSDS Programme?

The Military Skills Development System (MSDS) is a two-year contract programme designed to equip young South Africans with military and functional training.

Year 1:

  • Basic Military Training

  • Functional and specialised training within allocated Services

Year 2:

  • Deployment to various SANDF Units

  • Practical application of skills

  • Leadership development

  • Professional work exposure

This structured programme prepares recruits for disciplined service and future career opportunities.


SANDF MSDS 2027 Application Dates

  • Opening Date: 16 February 2026

  • Closing Date: 27 March 2026

Late applications will not be accepted. Apply early to avoid missing the deadline.


SANDF MSDS 2027 Entry Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen (No dual citizenship allowed)

  • Age 18–22 years (with Grade 12)

  • Age 18–26 years (with a 3-year tertiary qualification)

  • Minimum APS of 18, excluding Life Orientation

  • Mathematics and Physical Science required for specialised musterings (e.g. Aviation Engineering)

  • No criminal record or pending cases

  • Must meet medical fitness standards

  • No visible tattoos (when in uniform)


Required Documents

Attach the following to your application form:

  • Updated CV

  • Certified copy of ID

  • Certified copy of Matric Certificate
    (2025 applicants may submit a statement of results)

  • Certified copies of tertiary qualifications (if applicable)

Incomplete applications may be disqualified.
